I didn’t go. I’ve not been for the last few years. I think I’ve only ever been once. Reason being it was too ‘chavvy’ and FWD for me. There was plenty of tracktime which I would have loved to have seen. But spare a thought for the owner of this Mk1 Escort who had a slight coming together with the barrier.

I missed the Vanfest show due to unforseen circumstances. There are some pics over on the 105speed.com forum. It was the Ford Fair too this weekend at Silverstone. Yes, I missed that too. I’ll try and get to a least one show before the end of the season!

If you live in Northern England and fancy meeting up with a few classic Ford fans, we are holding a pub meet on the 21st January at The Great Western pub on the A62 between Huddersfield and Oldham. I don’t know how many will be turning up, probably only a dozen or so, but if you’re interested, get over to OldSkoolFords events section and get more info and put your name down.

Yesterday, myself and friend Simon took a trip up to the Lake District to meet up with some of the guys from the Old Skool Ford forum and have a drive around and a natter. We had my van, another Thames van, a Mk1 Escort, a Mk2, a Mk2 RS2000 and an XR2.

I took a trip up to Ripon yesterday in the van to the annual classic car show at the racecourse. My four year old daughter came along too, as she loves being in the van. I went last year and was very pleased with what I saw. I didn’t take the van along then, but there were some great cars on show. This year I didn’t pre-book as I forgot all about it, but if you turn up in a classic, you are part of the show anyway, and can park inside the racecourse and aren’t charged entry fee. Bargain.
There was plenty of stuff for sale in the autojumble. I didn’t buy anything for the van, but a mate who took his mint low mileage Allegro picked up a brand new water pump, hand brake cable and a couple of other bits and pieces for £8. The only thing we did buy was a Scooby Doo ‘Mystery Machine’ clock for Amelia, as she loves Scooby!
I also got chatting to a guy who has seen me a couple of times driving around Bradford who has a very nice 1700 crossflow powered Morris Minor convertible. Talking a bit more it turns out he doesn’t sit that far from me at Valley Parade (Bradford City FC for those who don’t follow footy).

All the pictures are below. Amelia got in on the pictures of the cars she liked!

It looks like the OSF Northern Meet is starting to take off. It was the vans first motorway run since changing the cams. It’s as lumpy as hell so will need remapping. I’m getting a new exhaust on Monday from Tony Laws in Leeds, and he’s installing a new lambda, as mine has died, so I’ll do the tuning after then. I did have a bit of fun on the way back. Mark, a mate of Simons, has a mint RS1600i, and he wanted to race from some lights. It was raining, so it made it more fun. His excuse for me beating him by a mile was that he couldn’t get the power down. Neither could I! Simon drove the van round the pub car park, and I think it’s given him the bug to get another Anglia, but this time modified. He didn’t want to give me the keys back!
We had a good turn out for a dark miserable wednesday night. Eleven cars of all different shapes and sizes: Anglia Van, Cortina Mk1, Cortina Mk2, Escort Mk1, two Escort Mk2s, Escort Mk3 RS1600i, Fiesta Mk1, Fiesta Mk2, Capri Mk3, and a Sierra. A couple weren’t strictly old skool, but they were Fords! And much respect to Tim and Lol who came over from Liverpool in their 1200 Mk1 Tina!
If you’re ooop north and are wanting to join in, get over to OSF, and the Northern Meet Forum Thread. We may be having a cruse one weekend as the nights are getting dark earlier.

…until the Old Skool Ford Northern Meet…
A few of us turned up at The Old Post Office just off junction 38 of the M1 a couple of months ago for the first OSF Northern Meet. Hopefully this month will be even bigger with more and more people promising to come. So, if you’re not doing anything on Wednesday 30th August, come to the Old Post Office from 8pm for a natter and look at some old cars.

The Old Skool Ford website arrange regular pub meets for their visitors. Most of them are down south, but us Northerners have started organising a monthly meet. More on that later. This one is one of the southern ones. It’s at 8pm on the 20th August at the Dolphin pub in Melbourn, Cambridgeshire. Apart from the usual group of old skool Fords, there’s free food on, plus a quiz night.
